Divi-divi is a shrub or a small tree with a rounded, spreading crown; it usually grows up to 10 metres tall, but can be much taller.

Height: C. coriaria rarely reaches its maximum height of 9 m (30 ft) because its growth is contorted by the trade winds that batter the exposed coastal sites where it often grows.
Soil: Succeeds in any moderately fertile, well-drained soil. It grows on rich clay soils and poor sandy soils. Succeeds with a pH in the range 4.5 - 8.7. It requires a position in full sun.
